Xiaomi Unveils MIUI 13: Everything You Need to Know

Xiaomi announced the final release of MIUI 13 at their latest release event, which is called the Xiaomi 12 series. MIUI 13 is an incremental upgrade on top of MiUI 12. As such, there are no radical changes to the user experience. MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition have introduced certain changes. One of the most important things that have been happening is that a majority of the new exciting features will be exclusive to China. It’s worth looking at the features of MIUI 13, which has recently been released.

This is to say that Xiaomi now has three MIUI branches instead of just one, which is an improvement. MIUI 13, MIUI 13 Pad, and MIUI 13 Fold are three versions. It is important to note that these are specialized versions of the software created for smartphones, tablets, and foldable respectively. The MIUI for Foldables combines regular MIUI with the MIUI Pad software to give you an experience that is tailored to your device.

MiSans Font

The MIUI software update has a new font named MiSans. This is a simple font that solves visibility and reading issues in both Chinese and English language.

This font is part of a Dynamic Font system 2.0 which includes a collection of interconnected TypeFaces at different weights and widths. The height of hyphens is intelligent and automatically adjusts to letters with different cases.

This font is already available to download on the MIUI Themes app in China for devices running previous iterations of MIUI.

Widgets

Ever Since Apple Inc. released the iOS 14 updates with widgets, Android phone makers have been trying to catch up with a feature that’s been in Google’s operating system for years. One of the reasons is because there have been no interesting developments so far.

It seems like Xiaomi has joined the dynamic widget race. They released MIUI 13 to explore their newest developments in this field. For those who don’t know, the company started testing this feature in August 2021.

The widgets in MIUI 13 are similar to those found on Vivo’s Ocean and OPPO’s ColorOS 12. They probably won’t be implemented in markets outside of your country.

MIUI 13 Widgets

Widgets are offered by prominent Chinese applications. Xiaomi’s Mi Home app also has widgets for mini-games, countdowns, reminders to drink water and suggestions on what to eat.

Currently, our widgets can only be purchased in mainland China. Sadly, this may never change. But it would be great if the film is able to make our product available in other markets.

Beauty of Science Wallpapers

MIUI 12 raised the bar even further when it introduced MIUI Super Wallpapers. For the new version of MIUI, Beauty of Science is creating a new set of wallpapers.

These new wallpapers feature the crystal structure of various minerals. The wallpapers in our new collection are a result of 8K time-lapse photography with a polarization microscope.

A new font called MiSans can be seen around China, not only on the streets but also on the screens of some new phones.

Customizable Xiao AI Virtual Assistant

Xiaomi users in China can now create their own customized avatar of the Xiao AI virtual assistant. Want to create an outfit? The dress-up doll can give you over 50 combinations of clothes and accessories.

You can also change the voice, set a custom keyword for activation, and more.

Privacy

MIUI 13 has been recognized by more independent testing labs for safeguarding private data than MIUI 12. MIUI 13, the latest version of the popular smartphone operating system from Xiaomi introduces Virtual ID, a new security module. The Virtual ID would allow a device to be equipped with a single unique identifier ́for an extended period of time for any number of authentications thereby ensuring privacy and convenience ́the new face authentication system.

MIUI 13 Privacy

The system used to only scan the face. After a scan, most people will have a full view of the body. The upper body is included in these scans for more accurate data. You can also add a watermark when scanning important docs.

The app also protects you from spam calls, texts, harmful files, and more.

Optimizations

MIUI 13 brings improvements to 3 features. Focus Computation, Atomic Memory, and Liquid Storage are now improved. These three new technologies debut in MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.

Xiaomi claims that apps in their system and third-party applications are now 20-26% and 15-52% faster respectively when compared to MIUI v12.5 Enhanced Edition.

Recently, as technology has progressed as such we’re starting to see more and more devices that can hold an average of 14 apps in the background, the Mi Mix 4 is one of them. After 36 months of usage, the read-write performance on devices like Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro only decreased by 5%.

Mi Magic Center

Xiaomi has recently unveiled Mi Magic Center, an answer to Huawei’s HarmonyOS Super Device. Users can manage all of their Xiaomi ecosystem products from this one single place.

They can cast screen and audio content from one device to another. To do this, first, drag the icon of the desired device across on top of its counterpart’s icon. Huawei, unlike Xiaomi, does not have a Customization feature or stickers to better differentiate each user’s mobile device.

Although the features of your device might not be compatible with Mi Magic Center you can still connect to it.

MultiTasking

The new Pad navigation mode in MIUI 13 now allows for floating windows to be displayed. Windows can be resized to meet your requirements. As a result, users can finish multiple tasks in the same time period.

For those who may not know, MIUI 13 is the latest version of the operating system for Xiaomi phones and it is now compatible with most other brands. Users who use the same app on both their tablet and phone don’t have to worry about not being able to pick up where they left off on one device.

Keyboard and Stylus

Keyboards allow you to navigate using default shortcuts or custom shortcuts. Users can start taking notes and screenshots on any screen by adding a stylus accessory.

App Compatibility

Last summer, Xiaomi made a new Android-based operating system called MIUI for Pad. It’s expected that more than 2,000 apps will be supported by the system by 2021. The company managed to adapt 3,000 other apps and programs with the MIUI 13 Pad.
