Apple’s iPhone 14 to have a 48MP camera, confirms Mark Gurman

According to Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPhone 14 will have a larger sensor. According to him, the iPhone 14 lineup will feature a 48MP wide-angle camera. It will, however, not have the bigger sensor of the Pro model.

How did Mark Gurman respond to Power ON on iPhone 14?

Bloomberg’s Power ON video featured a lot of information from Mark Gurman. In the video, he announced that iPhones have been using the same design for three years in a row. The majority of the changes will be functional rather than aesthetic and will focus on refining the iPhone 14’s features.

When it comes to prominent features, iPhone 13 didn’t change much, but iPhone 14 could offer major changes. It was announced by Mark Gurman that the iPhone 14 will come in only two sizes this year. The screen size is small and convenient at 6.1 inches and large at 6.7 inches.

It is most likely that Apple will drop the 5.4-inch iPhone Mini this year, with no chance of it returning. In comparison to its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 13 Mini did not capture much market share. Despite being the bestselling phone in the first quarter of 2022, the Mini accounted for only 3% of sales.

Camera and Notch

A 48MP wide-angle camera will also be featured in the new iPhone 14, Gurman said. Higher megapixel sensors in iPhones have never been Apple’s thing. There’s a possibility that Apple will finally cave in and add a 48MP camera this time around.

It’s important to note that this camera update is likely to only be available for the Pro and Pro Max models. Base models will likely not receive the camera update due to the smaller sensor. Moreover, the Apple iPhone 14 would feature new notch styling. In the words of Mark Gurman, it would look like a large, quirky “Pill + Hole”.

Face-ID would be handled by the Pill part, while selfies would be taken by the punch-hole part. The Pro/Pro Max might also be left out of this upgrade, as the camera sensor was upgraded exclusively for the Pro models.

Mark continued by discussing the processor bump users can expect from the new iPhone 14. In the premium models, it would feature the brand-new A16 Bionic processor. It also has a special SOS feature that can make satellite calls. The internet is also rife with rumors about a faster lightning cable and an autofocus selfie camera.

Final Words

The iPhone 14 lineup is set to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Not only will it feature a new design, but also a bigger sensor which is said to be able to capture stunning photos and videos. With so many rumors and speculations surrounding it, it’s hard to say for certain what will be included in the lineup. However, we can confirm that the 48MP wide-angle camera is definitely in the cards! Let us know what you think of this latest development in the comments below.
