Apple Design Award Winners 2022

The Apple Design Awards were held for the first time last year. During yesterday’s WWDC22, Apple announced the winners of the Apple Design Awards 2022 for their contributions to the App Store. Only 12 finalists won the title of the best application/game design out of 36.

One game and app were recognized under six different categories. The categories were inclusiveness, delight and fun, interaction, social impact, visuals and graphics, and innovation. As a result, one game developer and one app developer emerged victorious in each category.

Who Won the 2022 Apple Design Awards?

Our goal is to help you get to know the ingenious minds behind the creation by breaking it down by category.

Inclusivity

Developers in this category provide a great experience by supporting people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and languages.

The best app design went to Procreate in the inclusivity section. Australian developer Savage Interactive created an iPad app called Sketch and Paint. There were many new accessibility features, including tremor, motion filtering, and color blindness settings.

By creating a cast that has LGBTQIA+ representation, Wylde Flowers is an arcade game that promotes maximum inclusivity. This is achieved without limiting the game to only certain ages, cultures, or sexualities.

Delight and Fun

The Delight and Fun Awards honor apps and games that deliver engaging and enjoyable experiences to users.

By creating and mastering a habit, Habit allows you to mold yourself into a better person. I enjoy the short milestones that make learning a new habit seem doable.

That’s it! With multiple endings, this murder mystery game has stellar fun levels. Various events result from each action. Every time you play, something new happens.

Interaction

Developers who offer the most intuitive interfaces to users are rewarded by Interaction.

An app called Slopes uses GPS tracking to allow skiers to track their progress. Though the app offers an abundance of data, the user experience is gamified by intuitive touch controls.

The music in A Musical Story is great. Players explore the protagonist’s musical memory, which appears intuitive and engaging.

Social Impact

Developers who use their creativity to draw attention to social issues are honored in the social impact category.

With Rebel Girls, you can learn about the lives of influential women. The app uses original artwork instead of plain text or audio to tell the story of women who have contributed to society.

Featuring a game that teaches environmental empathy, Gibbon: Beyond the Trees is a pedagogical resource. In addition to learning more about the threats to nature, it has fun mechanics that enable you to navigate the gibbon world.

Visuals and Graphics

Apps and games that excel in both visuals and animations are celebrated in Visuals and Graphics.

Halide Mark II is an app that lets you operate your screen just like a film camera. The interface is simple, so you can easily capture the best shots.

Apple Arcade’s LEGO Star Wars: Castaways delivers stunning animation and visuals. Studio Gameloft is known for developing and publishing graphics-intensive mobile games, and this one is no exception.

Innovation

Innovative games and apps that incorporate Apple technology are highlighted in this category.

It has a lifelike ambient sound collection that makes it a great music app. Listening to soothing sounds on it is an ethereal experience thanks to Spatial Audio.

Marvel Future Revolution is a real-time strategy game that feels just like a console game on the iPad. This game emulates a rich gaming experience with its stunning visuals, animations, and cutscenes.

In each of these categories, these 12 apps or games won the award. Visit the website to find out more about them. Do you have any experience with any of them? Please share your thoughts.
