When Zepp OS was announced in July, the first thing people noticed about it is how much more power-efficient it was compared to its competitors. Naturally, everyone expected this to translate to better battery life on the Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazfit GTS 3, but there are already reports that are claiming otherwise.
The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are powered with a battery capacity of 471mAh and 246mAh. While the new Amazfit GTR 3 has a lesser battery capacity of 450mAh as compared to its predecessor. The new Amazfit GTS 3 has a 250mAh battery which is slightly bigger than its predecessor. The Amazfit GTS 3 with its smaller battery with a 1.39-inch display same as the Amazfit GTR 2, has more efficient battery life than its predecessor. The Amazfit GTR 3 comes with a slightly bigger battery and also a larger one. 1.75-inch screen as compared to its predecessor, the Amazfit GTS 2 having a screen size of 1.65 inches much efficient in battery life.
Battery life is very important for smartwatch owners so let’s have a look at how the new generation of smartwatches fares in this area relative to their older counterparts.
Amazfit GTR 3 vs Amazfit GTR 2
As you have noticed in the table mentioned above, the Amazfit GTR 3 with its smaller battery capacity has an additional battery life of 7 days comparing it to its predecessor for normal usage. If we calculate the battery efficiency for heavy usage it also has the life of extra 3.5 days of battery life which is very impressive. There’s a surprising fact, if we use battery saver mode, its battery life is 3 days fewer.
Amazfit GTS 3 vs Amazfit GTS 2
The Amazfit GTS 3 has a bigger display than its predecessor and a slightly bigger battery. It is understandable that it has a bigger battery since the larger display means the overall watch is bigger and therefore there should be more space to squeeze in a bigger battery. However, seeing as the screen is bigger and the difference in battery life between models is very small, one wouldn’t expect a significant difference in battery life, right?
The Amazfit GTS 3 is very impressive in terms of battery efficiency just like its predecessor. In normal usage mode, its battery life is 5 days extra than Amazfit GTS 2. It also gets an additional 2.5 days for heavy usage as compared to its predecessor. If we use battery saver mode, both the devices got the same battery life.
Zepp OS – Blockbuster Entry in Smartwatch OS
It’s great to see that the promise of better battery power consumption with the arrival of Zepp OS is not false. Although the details above were pulled from their product pages, we don’t expect this to change much when the watches are reviewed.
Final Words
As you may know, one of the biggest things to keep in mind when buying a smartwatch is how long the battery lasts. The battery life of a smartwatch is very important because if the battery dies, you are unable to use the watch to track your fitness achievements or receive important notifications.
