Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Launched – Everything You Need To Know

The wait is finally over and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has launched. Qualcomm has just announced its latest chipset, and it is powerful. The performance, the efficiency, and the graphics processor have all been improved from before.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Qualcomm wants to streamline its GPU, DSP SoC, and other products by moving away from a number-based model. However, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset comes with Qualcomm’s first Armv9 CPU cores, the new 18-bit triple image signal processor is better and offers better quality pictures. Improved machine learning will help the camera detect what is in the shot & make automatic adjustments accordingly.

These might sound like improvements we expected but we’re not done yet. Inside the SoC, you’ll find a lot of components to explore. There are so many elements to explore inside the SoC. Let’s talk about more amazing details.

With the same triple ISP set-up, this chip has been improved to better suit your needs. We have upgraded the image pipeline so your phone can capture 18-bit RAW images that were previously 14-bit. Achieving up to 3.2 gigapixels per second, this feature is advantageous because it allows you to lower compression rates to make images look smoother, it is up from 2.7 last-gen. This sensor takes images in 108MP and has eliminated the shutter lag issue. The video capabilities would still remain fairly similar to 8K, however, 8K 30fps HDR can be seen for the first time.

With all the increased number of features, the ISO will be way better than earlier, the accuracy will be very high and noise will be lower. We just need a great phone with a great camera to harness all the capabilities of this beast.

Some of the other features introduced are a dedicated bokeh engine to apply soft blur to 4K video, an ultra-wide engine to handle everything “ultra-wide”, improved AI-based-face detection capabilities.

Machine Learning

There have been improvements to machine learning. Qualcomm has made some improvements to its Hexagon DSP by doubling the tensor acceleration. Qualcomm made this processor up to 1.7x more power-efficient than previous generations.

Precision calculations have improved so much that complex workloads may see a 4x increase in performance. Due to a combination of hardware & software improvements. There is a range of improvements to be found in this version, including improved security, power management, and better time management.

CPU & GPU

Let’s come back to the base, where we will discuss some processing units. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is more powerful than the previous generation. It features a Cortex-X2 powerhouse CPU Clock speed of 3GHz, which is higher than last year’s model, two big Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores at a more modest 1.8GHz. This processor offers a 20% performance improvement and 30% power saving compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 888.

The Snapdragon chip now has the Andreno GPU, which is 30% faster than before. This will provide faster performance across your graphics-intensive apps, with an equally 25% power saving. When using the new Vulkan API, graphics performance is 60% better than before. Mobile gaming would never be the same if it had been introduced earlier.

Conclusion

We hope the chipset performs as advertised and I am very excited to see the smartphones powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The feature, performance, accuracy, and efficiency are undoubtedly increased and it will provide a next-level performance to smartphone users especially for gaming. It enhanced it in every manner even that is the camera, normal usage, apps usage or gaming this chipset will change everything.
