MacRumors and 9to5Mac spotted a research note, We can expect to see the new headgear next year. According to her, the headset will be coming with two processors.

One of these processors will have the same computing power as M1. The other would be a lower-end chip to handle the multitude of sensors the device has.

We predict that Apple’s AR headset to be launched in 4Q22 will be equipped with two processors. The higher-end processor will have similar computing power as the M1 for Mac, whereas the lower-end processor will be in charge of sensor-related computing.

The power management unit (PMU) design of the high-end processor is similar to that of M1 because it has the same level of computing power as M1.

Kuo mentioned that Apple plans to replace the iPhone with AR in 10 years. One of the first steps towards this goal is the development of the AR headset. It also seems like the headset will be able to support Virtual Reality (VR) experiences. Regarding the display, he expects it to have a pair of 4K Micro OLED displays from Sony.

The M1 is powerful, which makes it more likely to be a standalone AR headset. Kuo thinks that it will be positioned only as an accessory for the Mac or iPhone. It would not be ideal for the product to grow in this direction. An AR headset that works independently means it will have a whole ecosystem and a flexible user experience.

We have also covered an article on Meta’s upcoming haptic glove that can be used to feel things in AR and VR.

Apple’s AR headset requires a separate processor as the computing power of the sensor is significantly higher than that of the iPhone. For example, the AR headset requires at least 6-8 optical modules to simultaneously provide continuous video see-through AR services to users. In comparison, an iPhone requires up to 3 optical modules running simultaneously and does not require continuous computing.

Conclusion

Meta previously facebook also worked on such products that work with mixed reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality. This product should be the true reality headset. Apple AR Headset is very futuristic for gaming and meetings as well. The future meetings won’t be happening on zoom or any other app, instead, it will be done in hologram style wearing headsets. These AR and VR headsets have high-end displays that will provide high-quality virtual reality in the real world. Apple’s AR Headset must be very expensive as it is very powerful.
