Xiaomi has launched its Xiaomi 12 series including Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X. This is the most awaited flagship series from Xiaomi and we were hoping it will be launched earlier in 2022.
Xiaomi’s new Mi 11, with its 6.8-inch display, is surprisingly small compared to what they used to design. After years of large phones, this year it seems like they’re heading back to more compact devices for their lineup. Xiaomi unveiled their new phone, the Xiaomi 12 today at the launch event. The company also talked about how comfortable it feels to hold. A large portion of the presentation was devoted to this fact.
Xiaomi 12
Xiaomi 12 Specifications
The device with its 6.28-inch AMOLED display is, after all, much smaller than most of the other Android flagships out there whose screen size has lately stabilized at around 6.7-inches. The Xiaomi 12 has one of the most intricately curved displays you’ll find on a smartphone. Together with the new ergonomic design, it measures just 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.16 mm – that’s 18% thinner than your average flagship phone.
Xiaomi 12 Display
The other display specs cover a resolution of 2,048 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels FHD+ and a refresh rate that ranges from 1Hz to 120Hz, peak brightness of 1100nits, 480Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+, 12bit colors, and Dolby Vision support. The screen on the Mi 12 goes down to 1080p as compared to Mi 11 which has 2k, but this is ok because of the size. The FHD+ resolution is less than that on Xiaomi’s last flagship. The display also has the higher quality Gorilla Glass Victus, which is currently on some other high-end phones.
Xiaomi 12 Processor
Xiaomi 12 has a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor which offers an impressive performance boost, which is another highlight of Xiaomi 12. The GPU in this new chip has been improved by 52% in comparison to the last chip. The AI engine in the new chip has also been improved 400% over the last one. The temperature is controlled with an external cooling unit that is 2600mm² large. It works via vapor compression.
Xiaomi 12 Camera
The primary camera on the Xiaomi 12 has an IMX766 sensor with 50 megapixels (1/1.56″, 1.0µm). The device has two more cameras, the phone has a triple rear camera setup. The latest update includes advanced post-processing tech for better pics of fast-moving objects. Xiaomi’s newly improved ‘Xiaomi Image Brain’ also helps speed up the processing time. 2 cameras on the back – 5MP for macro shots and 13MP for wide-angle shots, plus a 32MP front camera.
Xiaomi 12 Battery
The Xiaomi 12 has a 4500mAh battery which supports wired charging of 67W, wireless charging of 50W, and wireless reverse charging of 10W. It offers an under-display fingerprint sensor for better security.
Xiaomi 12 Price
The device comes in 4 (four) different colors black, purple, blue, and field green color options. The RAM and storage variants are 8GB & 128GB, 8GB & 256GB, and 12GB & 256GB, priced at CNY 3,699 ($580,) CNY 3,999 ($628), CNY 4,399 ($690), respectively.
Xiaomi 12 Pro
The 12 Pro is the beefier and more powerful version of the standard model. It offers improved features like the improved double lens camera and larger battery.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Specifications
A bigger screen usually means a bigger body size which is not the case with the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The phone measures 163.6 x 74.6 x 8.16 mm but is exactly as thick as before. Weight-wise, the pro model is heavier than its non-pro counterpart. It weighs 205g.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Display
The first thing you’ll notice is the large 6.73-inch display with a 2K resolution. The charging rate has been nearly doubled and now stands at 120W. Taipei game show demoing the new speakers which offer better sound than the Mi 12 (although still not on par with more professional setups)
Xiaomi 12 Pro Processor
The processor is the same as used in Xiaomi 12, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. This processor provides a higher performance as mentioned already.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Camera
Xiaomi has 12 Pro with three 50MP camera sensors, which is a huge improvement over the regular model, included 50MP IMX707 primary (1/1.28″, 1.22µm), 50MP ultrawide cameras, and 50MP telephoto,
Xiaomi 12 Pro Battery
The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with a 4600mAh battery which supports wired charging of 120W, wireless charging of 50W, and wireless reverse charging of 10W. It also offers an under-display fingerprint sensor for better security.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Price
The RAM and storage variants are 8GB & 128GB, 8GB & 256GB, and 12GB & 256GB, priced at CNY 4,699 ($738), CNY 4,999 ($785), CNY 5,399 ($848), respectively.
Xiaomi 12X
The Xiaomi 12X is a good, affordable alternative to other Xiaomi devices that offer a similar experience. Studying the differences between two devices can be challenging, but when they are identical, it is possible to illuminate them in certain areas.
There are a couple of slight differences from the flagship, such as the fact that it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chip and does not have wireless connectivity or a reverse charging feature, and doesn’t have the CyberFocus technology found on its more expensive siblings. Available color options are blue, black, and purple and the price starts at CNY 3,199 ($502).
All of the three devices will be running MIUI 13 based on Android 12 right out of the box, they’re the first ones from this brand to run a stable version of the update. You’ll be able to buy the Xiaomi 12 series from December 31st in China and a worldwide launch should happen sometime in early 2022.
