Nobody would blame you for being so excited about the Essential PH-1. It was a beautiful phone at the time and now we are having OSOM OV1 Phone. Created by the founders of Android, Andy Rubin, though the PH-1 didn’t sell as well as some people would have liked, it was well-received by those who did buy it. Consequently, despite receiving early investing, a report revealed sexual misconduct against Rubin, leading to his departure from Google.
Jason Keats, former head of Essential R&D, started up a new company which he called OSOM in 2020. The OSOM OV1 mobile phone is just announced, there is a very high expectation to this latest product. The outer appearance of the device has been attracting a lot of interest.
OSOM OV1 Phone Specifications
A new photo of its rear was revealed and here is what we saw: two cameras with an LED flash. We have a fingerprint sensor on the side of our phone with the OSOM branding besides the camera module.
I really liked the design of the camera module which reminded me of the Fairphone 4 that was recently released. In a recent interview with Android Police’s Ryne Hager, Jason Keats mentioned that the phone would be powered by a Qualcomm SoC, but he didn’t say which one.
It goes on to say that OV1 is not planning to go after the ultra-premium segment. Instead, it’ll succeed the last generation phone by targeting the high-end device segment. We won’t know more about it until next year when we can see it at Mobile World Congress in February. The release date of the phone is currently set for Summer 2022.
The phone will be available in the US, Canada, and Europe. However, the brand will not be partnering with telecommunication companies; hence, you will only be able to buy this phone unlocked.
OV1’s key feature is that it respects your privacy and is secure. This initiative will help you protect your data from prying eyes and help you make the necessary decisions when it comes to what is shared and what isn’t. Keats claims that it takes at least 100x secure for an attacker to be successful on their shield compared to Android.
Android is the main operating system of Android phones. This phone will be running a close-to-stock Android OS. He also revealed that the company is taking public concern on camera quality seriously and are putting a lot of time & money into getting them right.
